How to Name Us

Naming Us as Trustee

If you're drafting or amending a trust, power of attorney, or advance health care directive, here's how to name us correctly so the appointment holds up as written. This is general guidance, not legal language — your attorney will draft the exact wording for your document.

Documents should name Thomas John (T.J.) Schrette personally in any of these roles, not Napa Fiduciary Group. Under California law, these roles must be held by an individual, with limited exceptions for banks and licensed trust companies.

Suggested language:

  • Trustee: "I appoint Thomas John (T.J.) Schrette as trustee."
  • Agent under Power of Attorney: "I appoint Thomas John (T.J.) Schrette as my agent."
  • Health Care Agent: "I appoint Thomas John (T.J.) Schrette as my health care agent."

Successor Trustee

Naming a successor trustee in advance means a trust that stays in place over many years already has its next steward settled, with nothing left to sort out later.

Suggested language:

  • "I appoint Thomas John (T.J.) Schrette as my successor trustee."
  • "If Thomas John (T.J.) Schrette is unable or unwilling to serve, I appoint any then-licensed professional fiduciary practicing with Napa Fiduciary Group as successor trustee."
